Okay if you are ready, click on Exercises in the menu above. Please follow the instructions very carefully. It is no good doing them in a hurried, impatient manner, they should be relaxing and enjoyable. If your back pain gets worse whilst doing them, then stop and consult your doctor. WHAT NOT TO DO?

Finally, a few general do’s and don’ts that can make a big difference:

If you suffer from sciatica or piriformis syndrome, then never, I repeat never, sit on a hard chair . If you are going somewhere there are hard seats, bring a thick cushion or one of the ‘ring’ cushions available.Walk every day for 10 minutes and always hold yourself as straight as possible, don’t slouch or slump on a chair.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE

Backache usually starts to improve within a few days or sometimes weeks. Slipped discs or trapped nerves are not very common. Look out for severe pain that worsens during the course of a week or several weeks, or if you have back pain and a general feeling of being unwell, see your GP.

     Also watch out for:

  • Incontinency or trouble with urination.
  • Feeling unsteady when standing or walking.
  • Numbness in the anal and genital region.
  • Pins and needles, weakness or numbness in both legs.
